What is the LMC? The LMC is the School Library Media Center. A library within a classroom with a variety of resources where information is available, both print and electronic; is automated and utilizes the Internet [as well as books] for information gathering and coordinates activities with classroom assignments; where students learn information skills that will prepare them to live and work in the 21st century.
Library Services
My goal is to help students become sophisticated—and skeptical—users of information, but learning to do this takes more than having the Web at our fingertips; it takes instruction, guidance, and the kind of teaching that I do, as a certified librarian. “To read is to empower To empower is to write To write is to influence To influence is to change To change is to live.” -Jane Evershed-
MY PHILOSOPHY
The Library media center links students, teachers, and other members of the learning community to the world of information by: * Teaching students to become informational literate and lifelong learners, * Working in collaborative partnerships to meet individual needs, and * Providing access to information resources and technology.
To that end, my goal for the School Library Media Program is to: *Support curriculum and provide materials on all levels, for all subjects and interests of students, teachers, and administrators.
* Instruct teachers and students in research, study skills and use of the media center and its materials.
* Encourage students to develop critical thinking and to promote continuing educational and cultural growth in an inviting atmosphere.
* Provide multi-format material, such as books, films, periodicals, pictures, maps, computer software, CD-ROMs, and other resources as well.
* Include production facilities for use by students and teachers. * Foster the love of reading and lifelong learning.
